MG 6352

Being Sunday, the capitulars took a day off to relax, to share in a different way and to visit another site. Holy Mass was celebrated in various language groups and even breakfast could be taken a bit later than usual.

After lunch, a bus drove us to the marvelous romantic castle of Neuschwanstein, which is located near Füssen in Bavaria. The capitulars enjoyed the region and its beautiful landscapes, which is also the birthplace of one of the most famous Salvatorians ever, Fr. Pancratius Pfeiffer. He was the first successor of our Venerable Founder, Fr. Francis Jordan and led the Society of the Divine Savior from 1915 until his death in 1945, as its General Superior. The relatives of Fr. Pancratius warmly received the capitulars who had the opportunity to know the birth house and a bit of particular history of this Salvatorian worth knowing.

The day ended as usual with fraternal sharing in the recreation room.

MG 6268The last session of this day and week, was one of full activity, involvement and lively discussion. The capitulars were mainly dealing with topics regarding initial and continuous formation and governance. Fortunately the weather was cooperative to keep the capitulars inside and working, because it was rainy and chilly. But at the end of this afternoon of work, all the members were very tired. Nevertheless there was still some time and energy left for common prayer and a fraternal sharing.

MG 6196After the day of election of the General Superior, we started a brand new one with holy Mass, presided by two confreres of the Polish delegation. The morning session began in Italian, due to the fact that on behalf of the Italian Vicariate, Fr. Agostino Maiolini presented the new apostolate in the frame of the Centenary of the death of our Founder, Fr. Francis Jordan. The Italian confreres want to start service at the Queen of Martyrs Parish in the periphery of the Diocese of Rome. Then we put our magnifying glass on the financial reports, prepared and presented by the general treasurer, Fr. Scott Wallenfelsz. We studied especially the case of the Salvatorian Office for International Aid (SOFIA), which looks for support for our projects in the expansion units. The rest of the morning we dedicated to the study in the plenum of the proposals which were analyzed and adapted by the committees.

On August 24, 2018 Fr. Milton Zonta was reelected the General Superior of the Society of the Divine Savior (Salvatorians), at the XIX General Chapter, that has been taking place in St. Ottilien, Germany. Fr. Milton Zonta is 58 years old and was born in Brazil. In 1979 he joined the Society of the Divine Savior. From 2006 to 2012 he was a member of the General Council and in 2012 he was elected for the first time as the 11th General Superior.

MG 6121The afternoon session started with the second test ballot. Its purpose is to provide more orientation as a Chapter to whom could carry out the service of the General Superior during the next 6 years. Immediately after the straw ballot, we continued with the work in the plenum. We analyzed and studied topics and proposals regarding Identity, Mission, Formation, Administration, Finance and changes to the Constitution and the General Directory. It was again a day of hard work and much concentration. This leant itself to keeping silence in the evening without any problem.
